Keeping Heat In and Out

$0.00

Students design and construct model “water heaters” and examine the role insulation plays in resisting thermal (heat) energy flow.

The Energy Coalition will send you 3 thermometers per group, 6 rubber bands per group and post-its to bring this lesson to life.

Lesson Objective: Students will plan and conduct an experiment to determine how different materials have different properties that affect their insulation and R (resistance) rating (which determines to what degree a material resists energy transfer). They will also explain how insulation contributes to resource conservation, money savings, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions
Suggested Teaching Time: 115 minutes
NGSS Standards: MS-PS1-4, MS-PS1-6
