Kelly Garcia is a middle and high school engineering teacher at Hutchinson Middle School in La Mirada, CA. She has 10 years’ experience in the education field, and has been a PLTW Master Teacher for 8 years, specializing in Gateway and Engineering Essentials. Kelly is also a Master Teacher for the Femineer Program, and has mentored Femineer students and teachers for six years.

Kelly earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Chapman University in Orange, CA, and her Master of Science in Education (Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction) degree from Walden University. She has earned teaching credentials in Multiple Subjects, Biological Science and Industrial Arts and Technology Education, and in 2017, was named Woman of the Year for the 57TH Assembly District in California for her work supporting girls in their pursuit of STEM college and career programs. Kelly earned national recognition when she was named PLTW Gateway Teacher of the Year at the Project Lead the Way Summit in Orlando, FL. She lives in La Mirada, CA, with her husband, Raymond, and she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, Hudson, Flynn, and Olivia, when she is not working. I graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a BSEE in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. I spent 15 years working as an engineer for various companies. After retiring, I started volunteering in my 3 childrens’ classrooms. This led to getting a credential in Mathematics and teaching at-risk students for 9 years. For the past 7 years I have been teaching a four year engineering pathway at Ramona High School in Ramona, California. I have also started a Femineer’s program at the high school and middle school level, which has greatly increased the number of underrepresented students that complete our engineering pathway.

This past year I was honored to be a San Diego County Teacher of the Year for 2021. I am excited to be a part of the Energy is Everything curriculum advisory team.

Tim Bingham has been in education since 2009 and is the lead Architecture and Engineering pathway teacher at Redwood High School in Larkspur, California. Prior to joining TUHSD in 2020 to return to the classroom as an architecture and engineering teacher at Redwood High School and Tamalpais High School, Tim was a Career Pathway Specialist in the San Francisco Unified School District’s Office of College and Career Readiness supporting engineering, architecture and environmental science high school teachers and students. This role also had Tim supporting STEAM programs at middle schools and being a lead for CTE educator professional development on project-based learning, interdisciplinary project design and curriculum development. For the three years before joining SFUSD, Tim worked for an environmental education non-profit managing school programs throughout California designed to engage students with curriculum and projects in green building careers and sustainable design, including biomimicry. He led teacher trainings on year-long courses and presented at education, industry, CTE and CSTA conferences.

While in the high school classroom previously, Tim was the lead CTE instructor for the Stanley E. Foster School of Engineering, Innovation and Design in San Diego teaching architectural, engineering, green technology and environmental sustainability project-based learning curricula and Project Lead The Way courses for 7 years. Tim is a Master PLTW Teacher in Civil Engineering and Architecture and has led professional development trainings across the nation for teachers implementing this course. Tim was the recipient of the California Project Lead The Way Engineering Teacher of the Year award in 2015. He was an adjunct faculty for architecture courses at Cuyamaca College in San Diego and prior to teaching, Tim was an Associate, Director of Design at architecture firms in the San Diego region for 11 years. Tim holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Miami and California Teaching Credential for Engineering and Architecture.

Jason Kay is a high school engineering teacher at Santana High School located in San Diego County. He currently teaches an Introduction to Engineering class and an Architecture class. He has been involved in the education field since 2002. Jason has also taught various high school math courses of all levels including Integrated Math, Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. Mr. Kay earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Arizona State University and his Master’s degree in Education from National University in San Diego California. He has been awarded the Golden Apple award for his school site twice during his teaching tenure. Mr. Kay was named “Teacher of the Year” for the 2011-12 school year and again in 2017-18 at his school site as well. He has also been awarded the PLTW Engineering California Teacher Of The Year in 2018.

He also participates in extracurricular activities, serving as an adviser of the ACE club (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering) and head coach of the varsity golf team.
