Students will investigate natural gas by learning various methods utilized to extract natural gas. Then they will conduct an experiment that simulates the conditions that replicate the extraction and refining process of natural gas. Students will analyze and interpret their findings from the experiment and address potential environmental impacts.

Lesson Objective: Students will explore natural gas extraction by examining the process from start to finish through a hands-on investigation. Students will be able to explain how greenhouse gases are produced and trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere and how humans impact the environment through the use of natural gas and other fossil fuels. Students will better comprehend the total cost of energy production using natural gas.
