Students will plan and investigate desalination to better understand its process. Students will experiment to analyze and evaluate the natural and human-made desalination process. They will also ask questions and define problems associated with desalination, as the primary solution to getting fresh drinking water. Finally, students research and explore other solutions to the problem of limited potable water on Earth.
The Energy Coalition will send you plastic wrap, tape, salt, and a measuring cup to bring this lesson to life.
Lesson Objective: Students learn how limited potable water is on the Earth and the energy-intensive process of desalination. Students will understand the importance of water conservation until there is a more viable solution. Students become part of the solution as they actively participate in water conservation in their daily lives.
